What to expect…
Initial Appointment
Conversation: We’ll review your health history; your current symptom profile; areas of strength and need; and goals for your sessions.
Assessment: We’ll do a physical assessment, which might including postural assessment, palpapation (in standing and lying down), special tests, pulse taking, tongue observation, and assessment of tender points on the abdomen.
Treatment: We’ll come up with a plan for the initial treatment. On the very first day, we want to set a foundation for the treatments to provide a base for our work together. We’ll clear any blocks to treatment, which might include the system not communicating effectively within the body kingdom. Finally, we’ll bring in a treatment that specifically addresses your primary concern.
Follow Up Sessions
Conversation: Time for a brief update on your condition and anything else that is pertinent to our work together.
Assessment: Pulses, palpation and anything else that is needed to determine course of treatment.
Treatment: Acupuncture and/or Dry Needling, an AcuNap, and any Manual Therapy modalities indicated.
Homework: We’ll provide homework to support your condition in a manner that fits your life. We are focused on sustainable change, which means, you have to be able to integrate our recommendations. If you can’t, WE’RE not doing our job! Our recommendations are always based on what’s reasonable for you!
Please note, before you get on the table, we will ask you to disrobe. Generally, you can keep underwear on (if you wear them - if you don’t no worries), however if you are treating sacral pain or the pelvic floor, this may not be possible. We will always keep you draped while you’re on the table.

Absolutely! While not every provider understands how acupuncture works, many have seen it’s positive effects and will certainly support your journey to healing!

Generally speaking, acupuncture feels like a little prick, followed by an ache, this tends to resolve after just a few seconds. In the case of deeper work, like dry needling or muscle specific ashi point needling, the ache will dissipate after about 3 minutes in most cases. We always work within your tolerance, so if you don’t like deeper needling, we’ll work within the range of your comfort. We can achieve the best results by listening to your body.

This question is pretty difficult to answer because every situation is unique. That said, most people notice change within the first session. And nearly everyone says they feel so much more relaxed than when they walked in the door! The way acupuncture works is that it heals the whole body and is cumulative, thus, sometimes it heals something one might not expect. For example, you might be coming in for insomnia, and notice it steadily improving, but realize all of a sudden your digestion is the healthiest it’s been in years, then your headaches might clear and then your insomnia will be cured.
